This news outlines how the upcoming movie adaptation of Death Stranding will see limited direct involvement from its creator, Hideo Kojima. The film is part of a broader trend where studios are seeking to leverage the popularity of video games, much like the success observed with popular animated adaptations of well-known games.

As the box office sees hits like the Minecraft and Super Mario Bros. movies, film studios have begun to experiment with more mature adaptations. A24, for example, is venturing into this space with projects such as the Elden Ring feature alongside the Death Stranding movie.

During a recent conversation with a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, publication, Kojima explained that while he plans to play a producing role and help guide the project, he will not be taking on the directing responsibilities. His busy schedule prevents him from being at the helm of the film, and he noted that a cinematic version of Death Stranding will naturally diverge from its origin as a video game.

He emphasized his decision to trust the creative team working on the project, including his collaboration with A24 and Michael Sarnoski who will oversee the screenplay and direction. Kojima expressed confidence in their vision and made it clear that he prefers to let them exercise their independence rather than intervene with numerous suggestions.

Despite his reduced day-to-day input, the film is expected to carry significant elements of his creative influence, given that it is based on his intellectual property. Meanwhile, Kojima is also Eagerly anticipating the debut of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, set to arrive on June 26.
