QuakeCon has returned, celebrating the iconic games from id Software, and last night, the excitement began to build as directors Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin took the stage. They unveiled a highly anticipated remaster of the initial two titles in the Doom series (1993 and 1994), now presented as DOOM + DOOM II.
This updated edition boasts a deathmatch feature, online cooperative play, and multiplayer options that support up to 16 players simultaneously. Users can enjoy improved performance at 60 frames per second across all devices, with PC, PS5, and Xbox Series capable of reaching 4K at 120 frames per second. Players have the option to select between the classic MIDI soundtrack and a fresh score composed by Andrew Hulshult for DOOM, along with the newly crafted IDKFA track for the sequel. Additionally, it welcomes modifications created by the community.
To reinforce that this release is the ultimate and most extensive version of these beloved first-person shooters, it introduces a new chapter in the single-player campaign titled "Legacy of Rust." This addition is a collaboration between id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames, featuring fresh weaponry and formidable enemies to face.
How do you feel about it? Are you prepared to revive your old Doomguy gear and venture into the action once more?
