Enthusiasts of the Dragon Quest franchise have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate since its announcement a few years ago. Although updates about the game have been sparse, recent comments from series creator Yuji Horii have provided some reassurance regarding its development.

In a recent appearance on the KosoKoso Hoso Kyoko radio show, Horii addressed the ongoing progress of Dragon Quest XII. He emphasized that the development team is currently dedicated to bringing the game to life and hinted that more information will be shared gradually in the future.

Horii expressed regret over the limited news and updates, clarifying that there is no cause for alarm regarding the game's status—specifically stating that it is not facing cancellation.

This extended wait marks an unusual period for fans eagerly anticipating a new mainline installment, as past entries in the series typically followed a timeline of three to five years. The development timeline has indeed lengthened over the years, but with Dragon Quest XI released in 2017, the wait for the next significant title is approaching eight years, especially since the announcement of Dragon Quest XII took place back in 2021.
